The Corvette C8 Market is Cracking? C8 Corvette Price Data

Check out this video from Fourwheel Trader as he provides car depreciation analysis on many types of popular cars.

In this video he covers the still top selling and leader in July of 2021 C8 Corvette. We haven’t noticed that much cracking since the C8 is still hard to get and in most cases 12-18 months to get one in your hands when ordering as the lists are so big with Chevy dealers across the country.

The one thing that might slow it down is when Chevrolet announces the production dates on the new C8 Z06 on October 26th, 2021.

Per his video description of C8 Corvette Prices

Buying a Corvette C8? Then this is the video to watch. In this depreciation and buying guide of the Corvette C8 I will show you how much Corvette prices changed in the last three months and what the current premiums are. Furthermore, I will show that we might be at the beginning of the end for the c8 price premiums. You can contact me at fourwheeltrader@gmail.com if you would like a personalized analysis. Following high demand and limited supply, Corvette C8 prices skyrocketed during last year. This uptrend continued during the last three months as the median price point increased even further by 4%. However, as this video will show you, the first signs of a trend change start to appear. First, we can observe that the upward price trend in the used car market came to an end. Used car prices didn’t increase during the last three months. Moreover, we can already see some price decreases at a more granular level. All of this is caused by an increase in used car supply and median mileage. Second, we can see that the price variation starts to decrease. Prices are less extreme and outliers are priced closer to the rest of the market. This usually signals that the market decided on the price. All of this fits within in the larger market trends. Wholesale prices continued to decrease during July and the average time in takes to sell a used car bottomed out. Yet, it’s unlikely that the C8 market will crash. It’s still the most popular car of the US and it’s sales numbers are miles ahead of the competition. Therefore, it’s more likely that prices will adjust gradually. Note that all the prices are advertised prices.

Will the C8 Corvette Platform Ever Put Out Tesla Model S Plaid Numbers?

So if you are a car person not just Corvette or C8 Corvette I’m sure you have seen by now Tesla launch their new Tesla Model S Plaid edition and are putting up low 9 second quarter mile runs as well as under 1.99 0 to 60 numbers too.

Tesla Plaid Model S Fastest Quarter Mile (1/4) Pass By One of the First 25 Owners

Not only are the new Tesla Plaid performance numbers insane from the factory, there is less headaches worrying about transmissions, mods, ect…

And the Tesla Plaid is beating other production cars like the McLaren P1, McLaren Senna, Porsche GT2 RS, and Lamborghini Huracan at the race track at Leguna Seca

When the C8 Corvette came out one of the first things every owner noticed with the mid engine set up how crazy fast the 0 to 60 launch control was for a base model stingray Z51 car in the 2.5-2.9 range we have seen documented online. But the Tesla Plaid 4 door sedan already beat this and every other $1 million plus super or hyper car in production.

Tesla Plaid vs Nissan GTR on E85

As I mentioned this is the base model C8 currently and there have been talks of a C8 Corvette E-Ray with electric or hybrid technology and the C8 Corvette Zora which based on this Tesla Model S Plaid performance our guess is going to be FULL Electric 1000HP+ to compete. But who knows by then since Chevrolet and General Motors are already having a tough time filling the demand and orders for the base model Stingray Z51 C8 Corvette and it looks like even the C8 Z06 is being pushed back until 2023.

That’s still 2 years away and giving Tesla 2 more years with this Plaid technology leads us to believe its going to be a hard time for any manufacturer to catch up.

Chevy Dealer Service Tech Drives Customer C8 Corvette over 100MPH!!!

Check out this video by YouTuber “Jaysmizle” where he recorded a Chevrolet Dealer service technician took his car that was in for service over 15 miles and over 100MPH!

He had to bring it back to them after having other electrical and frunk issues and he has about 3k miles on it per his other C8 Corvette videos explaining his experience so far with the car.

Turning my C8 Corvette in for service… AGAIN

Per his C8 video description of the service tech taking over 100MPH:

This video definitely hurt to make….PLEASE hit the like button for more people to see this! I reviewed my PDR because I noticed it had a lot of extra miles on it and what I saw was infuriating.. What will GM or Chevy do about this?? THANK GOD the police/CHP didn’t stop this guy for driving recklessly and impound my car for 30days.

Everything You Want to Know About the C8 Corvette First Service

Check out this video from Rick Conti on What to expect, What’s Included, and When to do the First C8 Corvette Service and oil change.

One really nice thing is GM (General Motors) pays for the first C8 Corvette service.

  • Oil change
  • DCT Filter Change (included, page 295/296 of the owners manual)
  • Realistically you don’t have to do this until about 7,500 miles

Here are more videos on how to change the oil on your C8 Corvette if you decide to do it yourself. The DCT filter bolts has to be screwed in at 53 inch pounds torque spec.

C8 Corvette Today Versus The C5 Corvette Decades Ago

Comparing the C5 and C8 Corvette models is very much like comparing a high-end desk computer available in the 1990s with the Apple iPad available in 2021. In some respects, it’s also a bit of apples vs. oranges since the intent of the C5 design by Chevrolet was very different from where it went with the C8.

A Car Designed for Solving Problems

The C5 Corvette released in 1997 was a paradigm shift for Chevrolet. It needed a corvette that was far more responsive to efficient production expectations, it needed to be a step away from the past and the complexity of builds that became part heavy for the sake of iterations layered on top of each other. The vehicle had to produce a return to power again, something that had frustrated buyers tremendously in the early 1990s and produced very weak vehicles that soured the public’s taste in Chevy performance vehicles.

c5 corvette

A key factor of the C5’s success started with its simplicity in design. Using 1,500 less parts than the prior corvette model, the car was going to be far easier to construct, adding a huge benefit on the production side. In terms of physical design, the C5 changed the wheelbase and spread it out further with a flatter windshield, a greater slope in the front to reduce wind drag, and a sleeker look over all. Bottom line, what was a fast car visual became even faster-looking. However, unlike Chevy issues of the early 1990s, the C5 was not just appearance only; it actually produced hard results in terms of power and performance.

The engine block packed in a V8 powerhouse in the form of the LS1 for the base model C5 corvette and LS6 for the Z06. Built as a 5.7 liter assembly, it put out 345 hp. The suspension was beefed up with a Z-51 system as well as a redesign of the brake system that produces a 125-foot stop at 60 mph. The entire car was stabilized structurally with an aluminum tube designed for heavy power stress and torque.

The flagship of the C5 was the Z06 model, which included the LS6 engine package and the FE4 suspension. This particular souped-up design put out an even more powerful 385 hp. Once the additional weight changes were taken off the vehicle, the vehicle was reaching 405 hp by 2002. Again, the C5 was really a package of multiple worlds: production efficiency improvement, sleeker design to match modern expectations, and a respectable power output.

A Power Sports Car Upgrade for the 2020s

The C8 Corvette, released approximately 22 years after the C5, provides a tremendous step up from prior models. Keep in mind, two other model versions had already been designed and built after the C5 and before the C8. With the release of the C8, the Corvette now produced for an owner the 6.2 liter V8 engine based on an LT2 block design, producing 495 hp. It’s a 30 to 35HP increase over the C7 and well up to 150HP increase over the much earlier C5 Corvette.

c8 corvette

Interestingly, the C8 is a heavier car. It added almost 200 pounds over the prior C7 model but only about 100 pounds over the C5 which was designed for being light to add speed. However, all of that weight translates to power, which produces a C8 vehicle that jumps to 60 mph in under 3 seconds (2.8 seconds to be exact).  It was also a reduction of one second’s time from the fastest C7 clock. In terms of stopping power the C8 arrives from 70 mph to 0 in 149 feet, again an amazing amount of braking power applied at full speed.

The C8 transmission is a departure from previous years in that it will only be produced with an automatic transmission. However, while there’s no manual transmission option going forward, the automatic version is a dual-clutch design, responsive steering wheel paddle control as well as heavily computerized performance.

The C8 transmission is a departure from previous years in that it will only be produced with an automatic transmission. However, while there’s no manual transmission option going forward, the automatic version is a dual-clutch design, responsive steering wheel paddle control as well as heavily computerized performance. The above said, there is still ongoing discussion about a manual version running around and might be in development, but there isn’t a lot of confirmation per se on the matter, more conjecture. It would be an odd departure as well given so much was invested in the commitment to the automatic transmission mode versus prior versions like the T56 transmission and the LS6 compatible packages.

In short, the C8 Corvette and the C5 were both groundbreaking designs for their releases, but to compare the two side-by-side would be silly. Their build intent was very different and they were produced for very different markets and times.
