History of the Corvette – Corvette Generations

The Chevrolet Corvette was first introduced in 1953 as a concept car at the General Motors Motorama show in New York. The first generation of Corvettes, known as the C1, was produced from 1953 to 1962. These early Corvettes were designed to be lightweight, agile, and powerful, with a sleek and stylish exterior.

The second generation of Corvettes, known as the C2, was produced from 1963 to 1967. These Corvettes featured a more refined design and improved performance, with options for bigger engines and more horsepower. The C2 Corvette also introduced the iconic Sting Ray design, with a split rear window and a sleek, aerodynamic shape.

The third generation of Corvettes, known as the C3, was produced from 1968 to 1982. These Corvettes featured a longer, lower, and wider design, with improved handling and a range of engine options. The C3 Corvette also introduced the T-top roof, which provided an open-air driving experience without sacrificing the structural integrity of the car.

The fourth generation of Corvettes, known as the C4, was produced from 1984 to 1996. These Corvettes featured a more modern and aerodynamic design, with a range of new features including ABS brakes, airbags, and a digital instrument cluster. The C4 Corvette also introduced the LT1 engine, which provided improved performance and fuel efficiency.

The fifth generation of Corvettes, known as the C5, was produced from 1997 to 2004. These Corvettes featured a completely redesigned exterior and interior, with improved handling and performance. The C5 Corvette also introduced the LS1 engine, which provided even more power and torque than the previous generation.

The sixth generation of Corvettes, known as the C6, was produced from 2005 to 2013. These Corvettes featured a more aggressive and muscular design, with improved aerodynamics and a range of new features. The C6 Corvette also introduced the Z06 and ZR1 models, which offered even more performance and handling.

The seventh generation of Corvettes, known as the C7, was produced from 2014 to 2019. These Corvettes featured a more modern and sophisticated design, with improved handling and a range of new features including a digital instrument cluster and a head-up display. The C7 Corvette also introduced the Z06 and Grand Sport models, which offered even more performance and handling.

The latest generation of Corvettes, known as the C8, was introduced in 2020. These Corvettes feature a completely new mid-engine design, which provides even better handling and performance than previous generations. The C8 Corvette also features a range of new features including a digital instrument cluster, a head-up display, and a removable roof panel.

Also, the C8 Corvette Z06 was unveiled Tuesday, October 26th, at 12 p.m. EDT and the first allocations were given to Chevrolet Dealers in August of 2022 with the first C8 Corvette Z06s being produced at the end of 2022 in November and December for YouTuber influencers and in January of 2023.

At this point in March of 2023 there has been about 1200 C8 Corvette Z06s built with the final 2023 production scheduled for April 2023

Design and Performance of the Chevrolet Corvette

The Chevrolet Corvette is designed to be a true sports car, with a sleek and aerodynamic exterior, a powerful engine, and a range of advanced features. The Corvette’s design is inspired by racing cars, with a low center of gravity, wide track, and long hood

C8 Corvette Variants and Models We Know So Far

The C8 generation of the Chevrolet Corvette is one of the most dramatic changes to the ‘Vette since its inception. For starters, it’s the first to sport a mid-engine design and not a front-engine layout.

Despite this, it doesn’t mean that the C8 isn’t an excellent choice for anyone looking to get behind the wheel of a high-performance sports car. HotCars digital artist Timothy Adry Emmanuel created this render showing what the C8 Corvette might look like if it stayed front-engined, rather than mid-engined.

Stingray

Powered by a mid-mounted 6.2L LT2 V-8, the Stingray offers 490 horsepower and 465 pound-feet of torque. Chevrolet claims it accelerates from 0-60 in 2.5 seconds, making it the quickest Corvette to date.

The C8 Stingray is available in coupe or convertible body styles. The coupe features removable roof panels, available in carbon fiber or transparent, while the convertible has a power-folding hardtop.

With a mid-mounted engine, the Stingray has the potential to be a versatile performer. It is comfortable and civilized when you want it to be, then turns into a snarling sports car when the need arises.

Despite the Stingray’s wide width, it is not a problem for most drivers. It is a joy to drive and will quickly become your favorite ride.

Z06

The Z06 model is the most performance-oriented iteration of the C8 Corvette. This means it comes with a range of features that help it reach higher speeds than its Stingray sibling, as well as plenty of options to personalize it.

The engine powering the Z06 is a 5.5-liter small-block V8 that’s the first to use a flat-plane crankshaft, a design that reduces weight while improving airflow. This also creates a distinctive exhaust note that’s unlike anything you’ll find in a traditional Detroit V8.

Even when paired with an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission, this engine is more than capable of blasting the C8 Z06 from 0-60 in 2.6 seconds. Chevy claims it’s the fastest naturally aspirated RWD vehicle you can buy.

This car is track-bred, which means it’s a real-life racing machine that needs to be driven on the racetrack in order to be appreciated. That’s why it’s available with a range of aerodynamic enhancements, larger Brembo brakes and a wider set of gripper tires to keep you out of trouble on the track.

E-Ray

The E-Ray model is the quickest Corvette and one of the most affordable models in the C8 range. That’s thanks to the small-block V8 and electric motor powertrain that make 655 horsepower.

It also is the first Corvette to feature a feature called auto start-stop. The switch will shut off the engine when idling to save fuel.

Chevrolet says the Corvette Eray system also uses regenerative braking and coasting to recharge the batteries. The result is that the E-Ray doesn’t need to be plugged into a wall, unlike most hybrids.

The E-Ray’s intelligent eAWD system constantly reads the road and makes changes based on traction, such as applying more power to the front wheels. It works in conjunction with Magnetic Ride Control and all-season tires, making the car suitable for a variety of driving situations.

C8 Corvette Options

Choosing which Chevrolet Corvette C8 Stingray options you’ll want to add to your new car is important. You’ll find that there are several different trim levels to choose from, each offering a different level of luxury, convenience and performance.

Fortunately, you can narrow down the choices by focusing on what’s most important to you. For example, if you’re looking for a more sporty driving experience, you may want to go with the 2LT or 3LT trims, both of which feature upgraded leather upholstery and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone mirroring.

If you’re a true enthusiast, then you may also want to consider adding some of the more advanced safety features. These can help you avoid accidents and reduce your risk of injury during your drive. Also, other than some minor tweaks with the C8 Z06 vs the Stingray the Corvette C8 interior isn’t that much different other than the new Eray model that will have more data on the electrified system.

One of the best things you can do is add more carbon fiber to your C8 Corvette interior to stand out and give it more of a supercar feel.

Every C8 Corvette at SEMA 2022 Las Vegas (VIDEO)

Last year we covered KnightDriveTV video of every C8 Corvette at SEMA in 2021 Las Vegas. And now they have uploaded another video where you can hear their disappointment in this year’s showing of the C8 Corvette and the limited aftermarket companies showing up with new products.

They show as they did last year many Rocket Bunny Widebody Kits, StreetHunter Design Body kits, Liberty Walk Body kits for the Corvette C8 and lastly one of our C8 Corvette customization favorites from Label Motorsports limited edition of only 5 design and installations they provide with over 35 forged carbon fiber parts.

Label Motorsports has stayed firm to their business model of building 5 Vouno limited edition C8 Corvettes. They said it starts around $165,000 and includes all of their design options, forged carbon fiber, wheel choices ect…

They are still not open to offering parts on a one off basis or on a site where a C8 Corvette owner can piece out what they want like a ACS Composite as an example who also discusses their carbon fiber parts in this video.

Although the SEMA 2022 show isn’t as good as the 2021 Show for the C8 Corvette which has now been out since 2020, we are guessing next year will be the best showing yet with customized C8 Corvette Z06 cars showing up.

The many “firsts” of the C8 Corvette Z06, like the first C8 Corvette Z06 bagged on air bag suspension, or the first widebody C8 Z06, or the first C8 Corvette Z06 on “insert wheel company here” wheels

One part of the video includes a really great interview with Procharger Superchargers and their C8 Corvette supercharger kits including thoughts on the transmission, ECU, TCM, and how its set up with boost and fuel management.

General Motors Bowling Green Assembly Plant Facing Another UAW Strike?

In this video from Brink of Speed on YouTube he discusses C8 Forum chatter that is talking about another UAW strike like the one that happened in 2019.

You can learn more about the UAW possible strike again in his video below and at this Bowling Green News site.

What’s next for perhaps the region’s best-known employer?

Potential new labor problems, this time arising not from the national United Auto Workers union but from a local contract involving working conditions and perks that members of UAW Local 2164 believe aren’t being addressed.

The Chevrolet Corvette plant workers who make up Local 2164 sent an unmistakable message about the local contract last week, when 98% of the plant’s production workers and 97% of its skilled trades workers voted to reject an offer from plant management that didn’t include many of the demands being made by union leadership.

“We pretty much knew what the outcome would be,” said Jason Watson, shop chairman for Local 2164. “It’s disappointing that the company doesn’t take into consideration what the hourly workers are asking for in improvements.”

In 2019, the UAW strike cost GM 4 billion dollars an this was another reason their was a delay and lower C8 Corvette production numbers since this hit before Covid did in March of 2020.

Is the C8 Corvette Z06 Production Starting April 22nd?

In this video HorsePower Obsessed on YouTube shares a comment that was posted on a C8 Corvette Forum that states C8 Z06 production could start April, 22 2022.

The comment specifically says:

Which is very interesting since we recently posted from another YouTuber that was told from one of the top 2 selling Corvette dealers MacMulkin Chevrolet this is going to be a global car and they will not limit production of the C8 Corvette Z06

2023 C8 Corvette Z06 Production To Start MUCH sooner than originally expected!

There has also been information released that the 2023 C8 Corvettes including the C8 Z06 production should start in May 9th.

Another YouTuber Brink of Speed also shared his thoughts about the recent C8 Corvette Z06 production rumors, comments, and videos.

He has a direct email from a parts manufacture for the C8 Corvette Z06 and his email has some very specific details. They are estimating 60 per day production and about 10,200 C8 Corvette Z06 produced with about 15,000 Corvette C8 Z06s made every year after. Check out the video below to see the email that was sent from a Gmail account that coincides with the comment shared above on a C8 Corvette Forum.

Will GM produce MORE 2023 C8 Corvette Z06’s & SOONER than we THOUGHT!?

C8 Corvette Gets Wrapped Inozetek Metallic Racing Green

In this video you can see Racing Sport Concepts white C8 Corvette get transformed with Inozetek’s Metallic Racing Green wrap material.

In Inozetek’s Instagram post Racing Sport Concepts mentions Black Star or @goblackstar on Instagram did the wrap so perhaps “Car WrapKing Vinyl Wraps” filmed it or this is their new YouTube channel.

Either way they did an amazing job and that color looks awesome with Racing Sport Concepts full C8 Corvette carbon fiber body kit.

Rick Corvette Conti Jumping a C8 Corvette?

In this video from Rick Corvette Conti on YouTube he shares the latest C8 Corvette news and has a date set for his C8 Corvette “Evil Knievel ” type of stunt jump which is December 19th, 2021.

C8 Corvette Plant Slowdowns

Rick mentions a lot of his C8 Corvettes for customers are just sitting at the Bowling Green, KY plant for over month that he thought he should of received by now.

C8 Corvette Z06 Pricing

Rick also shares his thoughts on the C8 Corvette Z06 Pricing YouTube videos and confirms its all speculation as he speculates the pricing will come out in January or February 2022 from Chevrolet and General Motors officially.

Heated Steering Wheel

If you don’t get a heated steering wheel with any GM vehicle you get a $25.00 credit, 1 year free remote access plan, and they will retrofit your car when the part comes in since it’s been effected like many things with the supply chain and chip shortage.

Rick Corvette Conti C8 Corvette Jump

Rick Conti mentions he will be jumping his C8 Corvette Evil Knievel style with a full video production type video on December 19th, 2021. He will be sharing the video on his YouTube channel here and he has already completed the jump and has some slight injuries from that and also jumping over his car.

He mentions he messed up his C8 Corvette Convertible by jumping it but it is currently fixed already. It was a lot more damage then he expected and you will have to watch his YouTube channel Dec 19th to see the video of the C8 Corvette jump.

C8 CORVETTE JUMPS OVER ANOTHER C8

So here is the video of Rick Corvette Conti Jumping a C8 Corvette over another C8 Corvette. Real or Fake with good high production paid for editing? Leave your comment below.

He conveniently does the “jump” at night, in the rain, in a “private lot” that looks like a commercial building or school parking lot. You don’t see him land or go ramp to ramp and supposedly lands on asphalt but runs out of the car ok and the car flys down the concrete at 70MPH.

Unlike StreetSpeed717 where you clearly see him jump his lambo over his other lambo there is some fishy stuff going on here with Rick and looks more like a high production magic trick of the mind on some of his YouTube Commentors which also appear to fake? (a lot of comments from profiles with no pictures, videos on their page, about section blank ect..)

WHAT DID WE DO? EVEL KNIEVEL CORVETTE JUMP FOLLOW UP

Here is the follow up to the Rick Corvette Conti C8 Corvette jump that was fake and all for “entertainment” and “views”.  So if you enjoy fake car jump videos this one is for you! lol

2023 C8 Z06 Corvette Pricing (LEAKED VIDEO)

Check out this video from Brink of Speed on YouTube where he leaks the 2023 C8 Z06 Corvette pricing starting at $88,000.

He supposedly has a Chevrolet C8 Corvette Z06 build sheet with all the pricing including Carbon Fiber Wheels at $11,000 and the Z07 package adding another $9,500.

UPDATED – someone in the comments is saying they made this up. With the internet nowadays you never know what is true, false, made up. As we discussed in past C8 z06 posts its all pure speculation until Chevrolet or General Motors officially announces it.

c8 corvette comments

Also, if you want to go with the 3LZ option that’s another $11,950. You will see in this build its priced out to about $144,000 including $8k in Tax.

Some other interesting pricing shows the C8 Corvette Z06 Convertible starting at $95,500 or $106,995 in the 3LZ option before adding the Z07 package or any other carbon fiber add ons for the C8 Corvette Z06.

Interestingly enough this $88,000 starting price for the 2023 C8 Corvette Z06 is in line with the “CONFIRMED” by two Chevy Dealers pricing of $87,000 that HorsePower Obsessed leaked as well which is about $1k off.

How to Lower C8 Corvette (VIDEO)

Back in June of 2020 months after the C8 Corvettes started rolling out to customers we created this post on How to Lower the C8 Corvette as people started with the aftermarket mods.

One of the biggest issues cosmetically with the C8 Corvette is the big wheel gap and horrible stock wheel choices. The black trident wheel is probably the best option but again the offset isn’t as good as it could be and still a massive wheel gap that doesn’t look good for a mid engine sports car.

Since the wheels and wheel gap are an issue the most popular mods are getting aftermarket wheels for the C8 Corvette and lowering the C8 Corvette with exhausts, bolt ons, and wrapping their C8 Corvettes being very popular as well.

In this video most recent 2021 video by Paragon Performance and aftermarket marketplace for C8 Corvette mods explains every option depending on you having a base model C8 Corvette with no lift and no Z51 option to having the front lift and Z51 C8 Corvette stingray.

They sell front collars, suspension kits, and springs to lower your C8 Corvette. If you go to their site and order anything mention you found them on C8CorvetteBlog.com in the notes or when you call.

C8 Corvette Z06 1/4 Mile 10.4 Seconds (VIDEO)

Check out this video by Brink of Speed on YouTube where he shares a video from a follower of his that recorded a Spokeswoman at the LA Auto Show announce a 10.4 1/4 Mile and 0 to 60 time of 2.6 seconds.

This is faster than the posted time on some recent expo signage as they been taking the New C8 Corvette Z06 cars on a road show to automotive events across the country including SEMA, Phoenix International Raceway, Road Atlanta and now the LA Auto Show.

This is for the Non Z07 package that has the bigger wing and aero which is a more track focused car vs a drag strip car where you wouldn’t want to have the big wing from the Z07 package and much rather have the more sleeker duck bill type spoiler that the base model or non Z07 package C8 Z06 has.
