The All-New Corvette E-Ray is NOT What I Expected…

In this video from Speed Phenom on YouTube he learns more about the All New Corvette E Ray from his track car race car driver perspective.

Corvette E Ray Identity Issue

He mentions he wishes it had more of it’s own identity than looking like the C8 Corvette Z06. The wide body of the C8 Z06 and same tire set up are the exact same. The only difference is a special blue strip combination, E Ray badging, and non center exhaust like the C8 Z06.

Corvette E Ray Weight

The dry weight of a Corvette E Ray is about 3,774 lbs. (pounds) so its about 340 lb. pound difference than the C8 Corvette Z06 (3434 Z07 version with the Carbon fiber wheels).

Dry Weight (lb. / kg): 3774 / 1712 (coupe)

Dry Weight (lb. / kg): 3434 / 1561 with Carbon fiber wheels and Z07 Source: Chevy

Austin doesn’t like all the weight added to the Corvette E Ray but its more expensive to lower weight on cars vs adding more power. And the Corvette E Ray is an affordable Corvette version for more people in the market for more things then just the track focused intention.

Corvette E Ray vs Corvette Z06

Austin from the Speed Phenom YouTube channel currently owns a C8 Corvette Z06 and he previously owned the C8.R edition and base C8 Corvette Stingray.

He is one of the best people to able to compare the C8 Corvette variants especially since he has owned all of the different C8 Corvettes and he has tested the Mclaren Artura. Funny enough the new McLaren Artura is McLaren’s next generation hybrid supercar like the Corvette E Ray.

Chevrolet’s Global Performance Manager Aaron Link said they call the E Ray Corvette a swiss army knife in development giving Corvette enthusiasts a little bit of everything the C8 Corvette generations offer. Also, is give car enthusiasts that don’t want a full electric car like a Tesla or plug in electric car yet but a little taste of the electric technology.

Aaron Link shares some of the differences between the more track focused C8 Corvette Z06 and the Corvette E Ray. They are very close to each other on the track but drive differently.

Mclaren Artura Specs

  • 671 horsepower 531 pound feet of torque
  • Zero to sixty (0 to 60) is 2.6 seconds vs the 2.5 seconds on the Corvette E Ray
  • Twin Turbo V6 vs Corvette E Ray naturally aspirated V8
  • Starts at $233,000 vs $104,000 for a Corvette Eray (two Erays are less than one McLaren Artura

The HIGHEST MILEAGE McLAREN ARTURA!? Driven 1,700 Miles in 6 Days

The new 2024 Corvette E-Ray is the quickest ever Corvette and the first ever AWD and electrified Corvette. With the new announcement, I have had many many people ask me if I would trade my new Z06 for an E-Ray, and having experienced both vehicles, I absolutely have an answer to this question! Make sure you check out my other Z06 review and ownership vlog videos so far to learn more about this epic car, and also my first ride along with the new E-Ray! Comment below which of the new high-powered C8 Corvette’s you would rather own!

It’s the battle of 670 HP with the all new Chevrolet Corvette C8 Z06 taking rare McLaren Artura down the 1/4 Mile.

Best C8 Corvette Z06 Exhaust? (Stock vs Aftermarket)

In these videos by Fabspeed Motorsport and StreetSpeed717 you can hear the difference between the stock C8 Z06 exhaust and their first ever aftermarket exhaust components for the C8 Z06.

Fabspeed Motorsport was the first aftermarket exhaust shop to get a hold of a C8 Z06 thanks to StreetSpeed717. And using his car they were able to build a mold for a new cat back exhaust system for the C8 Z06 as well as sport cats.

A couple things you will notice in the videos is the stock C8 Corvette Z06 exhaust is amazing as is since Chevrolet took over two years to refine the sound from the flat plane crank engine they modeled off of the Ferrari 458.

Another thing you will notice with just the sport cats alone the C8 Z06 gets a louder sound but same tone from the stock exhaust built for the C8 Z06. Emelia Hartford has a video as well where she shows the stock C8 Z06 exhaust is straight piped in track mode.

So really the difference with the Fabspeed Motorsport cat back exhaust for the C8 Corvette Z06 is losing weight, better looking, and a little bit more of a higher pitched tone or sound.

After watching the videos what do you think? Leave a comment below would you leave a Corvette Z06 exhaust stock, add Fabspeed sport cats for the C8 Z06, or a complete system with the Fabspeed Motorsport cat back as well?

Fabspeed High Flow Sport Cats C8 Corvette Z06

Fabspeed explains the sport cats look very similar to the base model C8 Corvette however they are more high flow with a larger HJS 200 Cell cat.

They also gained about 19 more horsepower with their dyno testing just adding the Sport cats to the C8 Z06. Also, with their Supersport X-pipe exhaust they still were able to get more performance and sound gains.

If you are interested in purchasing the Fabspeed cat back exhaust or sport cats for the new Corvette Z06 check out more information here and when contacting them to purchase mention you found them on C8CorvetteBlog.com

C8 Z06 Sells at Mecum for $140k PLUS over MSRP

In this video by Flying Wheels on YouTube he films the first C8 Corvette Z06 being sold for well over $140k above the MSRP of $113k at Mecum Auctions in Florida. The sold priced of the C8 Corvette Z06 at Mecum Auctions was $275,000.

This was the Mecum Auctions in Kissimmee, Florida over the January 14th, 15th weekend and first C8 Z06 to hit the auction scene not including the Charity auction with Barrett Jackson the Rick Hendrick won.

Mecum Auctions 1st ever 2023 Chevy Corvette Z06 sells to the public at the Mecum Auctions in Kissimmee Orlando Florida January 14 202I.

Up next starting January 21st, 2022 until January 29th, 2022 Barrett Jackson in Scottsdale should have a few of these C8 Corvette Z06s on the auction block and we will get to see if this trend continues.

One thing we know for sure is Chevy dealerships have been marking up the C8 Corvette stingray since it came out in 2020 and have been marking up the C8 Corvette Z06 anywhere from $50,000 to $100,000 as well.

There were 120 Chevrolet Corvette Z06s ordered for stock and dealers are taking advantage of the C8 Z06 market as it might be the last naturally aspirated Corvette ever produced since Chevrolet is announcing the C8 Corvette E Ray hybrid electric all wheel drive model on January 17th.

2023 C8 Corvette Z06 Engine Problems after 50 miles! (VIDEO)

In this video by Marco Garcia on YouTube (update he changed his YouTube to Marco Polo/poloworld310) he documents buying a C8 Corvette Z06 for $50,000 over sticker for a C8 Z06 1LZ base model from Covina Hills Chevrolet and it needing to be flat bedded 50 miles of driving it!

This is not the first C8 Z06 problem or issue we posted about the Stradman having a transmission issue with the C8 Z06 that turned out to be a minor transmission pan gasket fix under warranty.

However, in this video you can now see not only did this 1LZ base model (111k-113k) C8 Corvette Z06 cost $50,000 over sticker at Covina Hills Chevrolet it died 50 miles from the dealership and they wouldn’t accept the tow to the dealer. Marco Garcia had to have it towed back to his construction business lot.

There have only been about 400 C8 Corvette Z06s made at this point and not every  C8 Corvette Z06 is being put on YouTube but at least two now are having transmission or engine issues. Also, StreetSpeed717 documented his throwing check engine lights if he does donuts in the car.

Check out this video on the New 2023 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 breaking down after 50 miles of leaving the dealer that marked it up $50,000.

Leave a comment on what you think went wrong with the engine and that really bad knocking sound as well as launch of this car that has been really bad.

GM and Chevrolet has favored YouTubers, Chevy Dealers are marking them up $50-200k, and now the first few to hit the streets are breaking. Will things get better or worse for the C8 Z06?

Videos were made private however there is a video at the bottom of the post with the C8 Corvette Z06 engine noise it was making at 52 miles.

UPDATE: 2023 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 Broken Engine Transmission

In this update Marco Garcia goes over day number two for the C8 Corvette Z06 with the engine issues. He has experienced bad service with the Chevy dealership he purchased it from and since it only had 50 miles on it OnStar didn’t haven’t the warranty information.

Once his dealership got to the dealer he started receiving OnStar email messages and the My Chevrolet app said everything is good. Then he received an emission warning and then he received an issue with the Engine and Transmission system and to bring it in 1 day.

He is requesting his cash back from Covina Hills Chevrolet where he gave them $50,000 over and paid for his C8 Corvette Z06 in cash.

UPDATE! Marco Keeps the C8 Z06 even though dealer offered full refund and he paid over MSRP

He mentioned the the dealer gave him 3 options on his C8 Z06 that blew the engine..

  1. Full refund 180K+
  2. Wait 2 months and get parts to fix
  3. Get next allocation in 6 months or so

He chose number 2 and is going to wait for parts and for this C8 Z06 that was bought for $69k over sticker with tax and other up charges from the dealer.

Also, he made his other videos private however there are other people that reposted the engine sound after 52 miles and had to get it towed.

Doug DeMuro C8 Corvette Z06 Review: Bargain Supercar (VIDEO)

In this video by Doug DeMuro owner of Cars and Bids and popular YouTube car reviewer he gives his take and Doug Score on the all new 2023 Chevrolet Corvette Z06.

Doug DeMuro did review the C8 Z06 at the unveil at the Petersen Museum but is giving some more insights on the C8 Z06 with it in hand now with the ability to drive it as well.

Doug DeMuro also reviewed the C8 Corvette Stingray with other car YouTubers giving C8 Corvette reviews which is one of his most popular videos which just goes to show how popular of a car the C8 Corvette platform truly is. It’s hard to dispute you get so much value with the price point and power vs. the Supercar and exotic car market.

People often ask me why I don’t review modified cars. Today Doug DeMuro is explaining why he doesn’t review modified cars. I’m going to explain what a modified car is (to me, anyway), and then I’ll cover the reasons why I only review clean, unmodified cars.

Doug Demuro Likes and Dislikes of the C8 Corvette Z06

  • Flat plane crank 670 HP engine mid 10s in the quarter mile for the C8 Z06
  • The look of the C8 Corvette Z06 with a wider body and Z07 track package and carbon fiber
  • 66 out of 100 on the Doug Score scoring higher than a 2020 Porsche 718, 2021 M4, Nissan GT-R Nismo but lower than a 2022 Porsche 911 GT3, McLaren 675LT, McLaren 720s, Porsche 911 GT2RS and Lamborghini Huracan Performante
  • Amazing weekend car but he doesn’t like it daily with a more harsher ride and only scoring the car 2 spot above the regular C8 Corvette Stingray

How to Get a C8 Corvette into Neutral with Engine Off

In this video Squirrel Cage Garage covers the only ways to get your C8 Corvette into neutral when the engine is off if you don’t want to use car wheel dollies.

This video is very relevant since the Stradman just had a transmission issue and problem with his new C8 Corvette Z06 and he couldn’t figure out how to get his C8 Z06 into neutral and had to use dollys to move it around the garage while it was leaking transmission fluid.

When Chevrolet sent out a local service tech from a Chevy dealer in Utah they confirmed and showed a special tool you can use to disengage the DCT/parking pull.

ProCharger C8 Corvette built by Late Model Racecraft (VIDEO)

In this video by Late Model Racecraft they share their first experience and first Procharger Supercharger C8 Corvette build. They said its still in research and development as this kit has taken years to perfect and there are now multiple versions of the Procharger Supercharger.

This C8 Corvette use to be owned by Legends Gio and was his first C8 Corvette giveaway vs the truck giveaways he usually does with LGND Supply and now the Lab CT.

The car was sold to Lawrence Motorsport in Scottsdale, AZ and it looks like the new owner brought it to Late Model Racecraft for the new C8 Corvette Procharger Supercharger kit.

We posted it on our Instagram C8CorvetteBlog which is another reason we know so much about each C8 Corvette that is modified along with our blog dedicated to the Corvette C8 platform.

Late Model Racecraft also created an over the engine mounted Twin Turbo system for StreetSpeed717 back in 2020 when he received his first C8 Corvette.

A ProCharger C8 Corvette is now a real option for you performance guys! You can now add 140-230+ more horsepower to an otherwise stock LT2 C8 Corvette. Sit back and watch Steven take this for a few spirited pulls and talk about the current set-up and what’s to come with Procharger Superchargers and tuning the locked ecu.

Every C8 Corvette at SEMA 2022 Las Vegas (VIDEO)

Last year we covered KnightDriveTV video of every C8 Corvette at SEMA in 2021 Las Vegas. And now they have uploaded another video where you can hear their disappointment in this year’s showing of the C8 Corvette and the limited aftermarket companies showing up with new products.

They show as they did last year many Rocket Bunny Widebody Kits, StreetHunter Design Body kits, Liberty Walk Body kits for the Corvette C8 and lastly one of our C8 Corvette customization favorites from Label Motorsports limited edition of only 5 design and installations they provide with over 35 forged carbon fiber parts.

Label Motorsports has stayed firm to their business model of building 5 Vouno limited edition C8 Corvettes. They said it starts around $165,000 and includes all of their design options, forged carbon fiber, wheel choices ect…

They are still not open to offering parts on a one off basis or on a site where a C8 Corvette owner can piece out what they want like a ACS Composite as an example who also discusses their carbon fiber parts in this video.

Although the SEMA 2022 show isn’t as good as the 2021 Show for the C8 Corvette which has now been out since 2020, we are guessing next year will be the best showing yet with customized C8 Corvette Z06 cars showing up.

The many “firsts” of the C8 Corvette Z06, like the first C8 Corvette Z06 bagged on air bag suspension, or the first widebody C8 Z06, or the first C8 Corvette Z06 on “insert wheel company here” wheels

One part of the video includes a really great interview with Procharger Superchargers and their C8 Corvette supercharger kits including thoughts on the transmission, ECU, TCM, and how its set up with boost and fuel management.

Which C8 Corvette from SEMA 2022 is your favorite from the video below? Leave a comment on this post, share it, and link to it on your social profiles.

Will GM Replace My C8 Corvette Transmission?

Recently Brink of Speed on YouTube has been having C8 Corvette transmission issues with his Captain America wrapped C8.

This isn’t the first time a YouTuber has documented a C8 Corvette transmission problem we actually have seen four other YouTubers with C8 Corvette Transmission problems as well. Rear Wheel Drive, Dad Bod SZN 610, Gabe Rolf Cars, and JakesVette on YouTube have all documented C8 Corvette Transmission issues and problems that we have posted on C8 Corvette Blog. Most were fixed with a new transmission from Tremec and Chevrolet under warranty and just a couple had the TCM reset that helped fix it.

At first Brink of Speed takes his C8 Corvette to Classic Chevrolet in Texas and they changed the transmission valve body and they did a reset and relearn on the transmission TCM and it still didn’t work. His dual clutch wasn’t applying shifts correctly.

He mentions GM is allowing techs to go into the transmissions and see if any of the internal parts can be replaced before giving C8 Corvette owners a brand new Tremec Dual Clutch transmission. So they still might not replace it until they let the mechanics and Chevy technicians check a few more things including the dual clutch itself on the Corvette C8.

Ladies and gentlemen, today I take you along with me to see if my C8 will need a new transmission or not. The mechanic that worked on my car has some news for me.

TR-9090 DCT Tremec 8 Speed Dual Clutch Transmission for the C8 Corvette

Here is more information from Tremec about the DCT Transmission they built for General Motors and Chevrolet for the New C8 Corvette.

Designed as the sole transmission for the 2020 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray

Featuring dual clutches that engage and release in perfect computer-controlled synchronization, the TR-9080 DCT can transition from gear to gear in less than 100 milliseconds without interrupting torque, allowing for comfortable and efficient touring and no-compromise performance shifts.

Designed for the new 2020 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray, the 8-speed dual clutch transmission provides extreme performance with either a fixed-bias mechanical limited slip differential (mLSD) or an electro-hydraulically controlled limited slip differential (eLSD) with active selection of the locking ratio.

Paddle shifters allow enthusiast’s to choose the preferred gear. The performance shift algorithms are so driver-focused they can sense when you’re doing spirited driving and will hold lower gears longer for more throttle response.

TREMEC’s latest advancements in wet clutch technology offers active thermal management, robust TREMEC-proprietary friction plates, and versatility in a wide range of engine applications.

A Shift of a Different Kind

The DCT is controlled with a high-performance, 32-bit transmission control unit. All systems – including hardware to control systems and software – were internally developed for maximum performance without compromise.

The new 2020 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray engine has a torque curve optimized to take advantage of the bespoke DCT’s power transfer. The wide ratio transmission provides a low 1st gear ratio for exciting launch acceleration, and a tall 8th gear creates a quiet and comfortable highway cruising experience.

Ratio steps 2-7 are perfectly matched to make use of the engine’s strong and broad torque curve for optimal performance on or off the track.

Features at a Glance:

  • Continuous torque over a wide ratio range allowing high performance driving and efficient highway driving
  • Over-torque shifting with torque boost for performance launch
  • Offered with mechanical or electronic limited slip differentials
  • Integrated mechatronics
  • Highly efficient concentric wet dual-clutch
  • TREMEC proprietary paper-based friction materials for control and thermal capacity
  • Optimized oil management system for extreme performance in racetrack gravitational force (g-force) conditions
  • ISO 26262 and ASIL-D safety standards compliant
  • Fast and accurate low-leak solenoids
  • Responsive and durable electro-hydraulic actuation system
  • Sophisticated transmission control unit and control software

Here’s an update to Brink of Speed’s C8 Corvette Transmission Problem

GM wanted Classic Chevrolet to check the ECM and update it and to learn the shift timing and did a global reset to let the modules go to sleep.

So far this has fixed the C8 Corvette transmission for Brink of Speed’s car. Also, as an added bonus his local Chevy dealer Classic Chevrolet was able to get the higher ups at Chevrolet to add a 5 year 100,000 mile warranty extension on to his C8 Corvette as well. So at this time he will not be getting a new C8 Corvette transmission since they were able to to fix it. If anything changes we will update this post for you so bookmark our site for further information.
