What’s It Like To Daily Drive A 2020 C8 Corvette

Youtuber, Corvette Direct goes over what its like to daily drive a 2020 C8 Corvette. And is it even possible? Let me know what your daily driver is and if you think you could daily drive a sports car!

As he points out in the video it’s very practical and easy to drive daily. There is also a decent amount of space in the frunk and the back trunk behind the engine and it gets pretty good gas mileage but as we all know most people buying the midengine corvette C8 aren’t worried about these features anyway.

Some points Corvette Direct makes in this video about daily driving a C8 Corvette

  • Gas Mileage good
  • Ride Height is great barely need to use the front lift if you have one
  • Storage space is decent for trips the grocery store, CVS or home depot
  • It’s comfortable and still good for long trips
  • GT1 seats are more comfortable as well as the GT2 but the Competition seats are more for track vs daily driving
  • It could be your only car if you were single or married couple with no family, kids, or dogs.

The Biggest Problem with the C8 Corvette, Understeer? (Deal Breaker?)

Here’s the truth. With 8,000 miles driven on my C8 Corvette, and visiting multiple racetracks with it, this is what I’ve learned. Does the C8 Corvette really understeer? Is this the real flaw and biggest issue with the car?

Check out this video to see Speed Phenom’s thoughts about the C8 Corvette since he tracks the car all the time and has driven it 8,000 miles.

He really shows how there really isn’t a big problem with C8 Corvette understeer and learn the car you have and the right balance for the vehicle.

2020 C8 Corvette Engine Blows While Driving!

We all know this is the first run most coveted car the C8 Corvette. And with that and any first run car there are going to be some issues.

For example we noticed someone that got 1 of the first 2,700 C8 Corvettes produced and their transmission went out and was obviously a bad batch.

Now in this recent C8 Corvette Review with Tall Guy Car Reviews he took MidwestRide’s C8 Corvette for a test drive and review and while they were driving it the engine seized.

So far what we know from MidwestRide’s YouTube update on the blown engine there were metal shaving in the oil filter. Since that’s all we know for now we suggest any C8 Corvette owner go get your first oil change at the 500 mile break in and don’t wait until the first suggested oil change for the C8 Corvette which is 7,500 just to be on the safe side.

We have to say with already 2,700 out there and C8 Corvette production started again only hearing maybe 1 or 2 bad apples is still a good sign of a quality built first car and like any first run on a new model built by ANY car manufacturer there are going to be some bugs or bad things to sort out.

It doesn’t even have to be a first run car. There are plenty second, third, fourth year cars of the same model that have issues with any car brand.

As we mentioned, be on the safe side and go get the first oil change on your corvette C8 at right after the 500 mile break in when the tach changes and they let loose on the RMPs.

He also mentioned the 500 mile break in period is for the DCT (Dual Clutch Transmission) and Engine not just the Engine.

Top 5 Myths and Misconceptions of the Corvette C8

Check out these top five myths and misconceptions of the Corvette C8 from a C8 corvette owner and YouTuber Corvette Direct.

C8 Myth 1

Can’t get the Corvette C8 for 60k

His point is that most YouTubers are adding all the options for YouTube content. So when they ordered they are getting 2LTs, 3LTs, and the Z51 package.

Although Corvette Direct is right there are not that many people that ordered a basic 1LT with no options either whether they are a YouTuber or not and on top of it because of the UAW strike and Covid 19 the production was limited to only 2,700 C8 Corvettes. Since people want this car more than any other car in recent history people are willing to pay more because it’s being compared to a Lamborghini and still undervalued and now with supply and demand with limited production people want the car now and don’t want to wait another 1 or 2 years (2022 for the Z06 version)

Chevy Dude actually shares stats on what C8 Corvette’s were ordered and 1LTs regardless of being a YouTuber or not aren’t as popular compared to the better specked cars like the 2LT, 3LT and Z51 which are still coming in at th $70-100k prices which are a lot less then most supercars and exotic cars it competes with. Only 63 were 1LTs

C8 Myth 2

The Z51 is a performance package not a “model” of the C8 Corvette Stringray and just a track pack

We have highlighted the differences of the Z51 package vs. the Base Model below and here if you want to see more videos of two C8 Corvettes one a Z51 optioned C8 vs. a Base model Stingray C8 Corvette.

Per Chevy this is what you get with the $5,000 Z51 Package Add on

  • Z51 performance Brembo® brakes
  • Z51 performance suspension
  • Performance exhaust
  • Performance rear axle ratio
  • Electronic Limited Slip Differential (eLSD)
  • Z51-specific front splitter and rear spoiler
  • Michelin® Pilot® Sport 4S 245/35ZR19 front and 305/30ZR20 rear, high performance, run-flat, summer-only tires1
  • Heavy-duty cooling system

C8 Myth 3

That the C8 Corvette makes 562 HP to the wheel

Corvette Direct is right there are plenty of dyno pull videos showing well below the 500 horsepower to the wheel and most videos they are making between 420-450  to the wheel.

We have covered C8 Corvette Dyno pulls with videos on our site as well here and here if you want to see for yourself.

The Base model C8 Corvette has about 430 horsepower to the wheel for the most part and over 500 horsepower with no mods or twin turbos has been debunked.

C8 Myth 4

That the C8 Corvette weight is roughly 3200 pounds

The Corvette C8 actually weighs 3,647 and is still really heavy but the next models like the Z06, ZR1, or the Zora should reduce weight.

Also, most people that have been adding exhausts, sport cats, or headers they are removing a lot of weight from the car as well which can help a little bit.

And they didn’t use that much carbon fiber to keep the price down on the first Stingray C8 model.

C8 Myth 5

And the last Myth is you can’t Drive the C8 Corvette Daily

That is far from the truth. Having driven and owned a McLaren which was not a good daily driver the C8 Corvette is hands down an easy to drive daily driver and has decent front and rear trunk room for getting groceries, going golfing or a trip.

They also have a front lift option that can help you with your daily drives over speed bumps or getting in or out of the steep driveways.

The C8 Corvette is a great daily driver unless you have a family since it’s a two seater car.

What do you think of these myths? Any others you have heard? Feel free to leave a comment below.

C8 Corvette as Fast as a Lamborghini Huracan?

The C8 Corvette has taken the automotive world by storm. It has had the most anticipation, buzz, and mark ups seen on a first year car in a long time.

On top of that the new C8 Corvette Mid Engine set up is stealing customers away from the traditional supercar and exotic car market from brands like McLaren, Ferrari, Porsche and Lamborghini. Why pay over 200k when you can pay half that even with high mark ups and get the same mid engine high performance experience even with the BASE model C8 Corvette Stingray Z51?

Wait until Chevy and GM drop the Z06, ZR1, and Zora C8 Corvette models on the market and watch those brands really get hurt.

Will there always be cult Porsche, Lambo, and Ferrari guys? Sure, but for people setting a goal as a young lad or gal they might be putting C8 Corvette posters on their wall soon enough and probably already are with the Corvette C8.R Racing car. That thing is a beast with the flat plane crank engine that revs up to 9k RPMs.

And now article after article after article is coming out that the Lamborghini Huracan 610-4 (yes, their AWD) had almost identical lap times at the Germany based Nürburgring lap time!

The Corvette C8 lap time was a 7.28.3 while Lamborghini Huracan 610-4 has a 7.28 flat lap time.

If car enthusiasts weren’t stoked already about the C8 Corvette about the value, performance, and comparisons to super cars and exotic cars in the market maybe this will wake them up!

Maybe those mark ups of the C8 Corvette to $100-$150k really aren’t that bad if they are hanging with cars that are over 200k!
