C8 Z06 Going to Have a Magnesium DCT Transmission?

Check out this video from YouTuber and Corvette salesperson Rick Corvette Conti as he interviews Brandon Byers with Vette Titans about the video footage he got of the new C8 Corvette Z06 test mules that stopped at a hotel overnight.

He said he thinks its going to have a center exhaust with a magnesium DCT transmission and probably a lot more magnesium parts (oil pan) to save weight. There was no Twin Turbo set up and possibly a magnesium exhaust as well. They all had the same wheels some had ceramic brakes which makes sense on a C8 Z06 variant of the C8 Corvette.

Also, he thinks they are were just testing out handling and have not yet refined the diffuser, exhaust tips, wheels, or exhaust set up although towards the rright and left side of the car where the current C8 Corvette exhaust tips come out were just “dummy” pipes.

However, the most clear image he captured was a magnesium DCT transmission from Tremec which could be just a coating by why only go that far with a coating only vs full magnesium to really save weight.

Which makes sense since General Motors (GM) been testing and using magnesium since 2012 and it’s 75% lighter than steel and 33% lighter than aluminum and they said by 2020 that they could shave off 15% of weight on their cars.

If that is the case they can take a 3300lb C8 corvette to under 3k pounds to the 2862 lb mark and really start competing with the likes of McLaren, Porsche, Lamborghini and now the Tesla Plaid.

Performance Shop Trades in C8 Corvette for Tesla Plaid!

Check out this video from Complete Street Performance owner Andrew where he trades in his C8 Corvette he used to build a Twin Turbo kit for the C8 and gets a Tesla Plaid!

I Traded My 2020 C8 Corvette For The Fastest Production Car In The World!

You know things are getting real with electric vehicles when a performance shop owner that has a business to mod and tune gas powered vehicles to perform as well or better than the Tesla Plaid.

This isn’t his first Tesla and probably won’t be his last as you see in the comments of his video a lot of “ICE” fans give him some push back but he’s embracing the American made electric vehicles made by Tesla now that that are coming from factory with a warranty “no mods” and running low 9 second quarter mile times with a 0-60 under 2 seconds.

As we posted recently having a C8 Corvette ourselves and having a Tesla plaid on order is the C8 Corvette platform ever going to be able to compete with the Tesla Plaid at this level? Will the new C8 Z06, C8ZR1, Zora or the C8 E-Ray have a chance?

Guess we will have to wait and see. Most car manufactures including Lamborghini and Audi have said all cars will be electric by 2025/2026.

Internal Combustion Engine will become a “classic” and history as we continue to move towards the EV revolution.

We even have to admit with being on 4 C8 Z06 lists we dropped off one of them because of the Tesla Plaid taking some of the excitement away from the C8 Corvette platform if its not going to be able to compete with performance the Tesla Plaid achieving. And if you have noticed all of the modded C8 Twin Turbo set ups either break a lot, aren’t reliable, need upgraded clutches and constant fixing to get in that low 9s quarter mile range. It takes a lot of dough, headaches, know how, or performance shops to build the C8 to do this even with a Twin Turbo set up.

Emelia Hartford who has the record has probably put in at least 50k to her C8 Corvette to run low 9s a couple times and is currently fixing her clutches again to see if she can break her 9.4 run. Tesla Plaid runs a 9.2 as soon as you get your Tesla plaid from the service center, giga factory or delivered to your home and it can run that over and over and over again without any worry with a warranty.

Corvette C8 vs. BMW M4 Edmunds (VIDEO REVIEW)

Check out this video review of the C8 Corvette vs the new BMW M4 where they compare performance, engine, handling, and more.

Per their BMW M4 vs C8 Corvette Review

In this luxury coupe comparison, Carlos Lago from Edmunds takes an in-depth look at two popular sports cars, the Chevy Corvette C8 and BMW M4 Competition. You might not think these two sport coupes would have much in common, but the Corvette and M4 share many similarities. Both are rear-wheel-drive two-door coupes that have around 500 horsepower. They have similar prices, and both are insanely fun to drive. Which one is the better choice? We answer that question and more in this exciting sports car comparison of the 2020 Chevrolet Corvette vs. 2021 BMW M4 Competition. With the eighth-generation Corvette (or C8), Chevrolet moved away from the classic front-engine layout to a new mid-engine layout. The change dramatically improves the driving experience. The 2020 Corvette C8, with a 6.2-liter V8 and dual-clutch automatic transmission, glides effortlessly around the track. The steering and handling are such that the driver has the utmost confidence to push this Chevy sports car to its limits. Speed has always been a calling card of the Corvette, and the 2020 model doesn’t disappoint — it’s really fast. Add all these factors up, and it’s easy to see why the Chevrolet Corvette C8 is consistently ranked as one of the best sports cars. The BMW M4 Competition is a worthy opponent for the Corvette. Redesigned for 2021, the M4 is faster and more powerful than the previous generation. A turbocharged 503-horsepower six-cylinder engine and improved suspension work together to put all that power to the road. The M4 is based on the BMW M3 sedan, so it is a little longer and taller than the Corvette. The 2021 M4 also has a back seat, so there’s more interior space in BMW’s sports car. Fun, fast and powerful, the 2021 BMW M4 Competition is a force on the track and on the road. These two similar sports cars are the stars in this luxury sports car comparison test. The Chevrolet Corvette and BMW M4 Competition are both rear-drive two-door sport coupes with 500 hp. It would be hard to go wrong with either, but which is the right choice for you? We have our preference, but everyone is different and we’re here to help you make the best decision. It’s the 2020 Chevy Corvette C8 vs. 2021 BMW M4 Competition sports car comparison test.

As you will see at the end of the video review of the BMW M4 and C8 Corvette that both are great sports cars. The C8 Corvette is faster but the BMW M4 has back seats but gives you more raw rear wheel driving experience.

You can get a lot more C8 Corvette for the price vs. the BMW M4. The C8 Corvette is the best mid engine car for the price range and even compared to other mid engine supercars that are double or triple the price.

Chevrolet Announces 2023 C8 Corvette Z06 Details to be Released in the Fall

This morning Chevrolet teased a 2023 C8 Corvette Z06 video on social media saying the details will be released this fall.

Corvettes of Carlisle is August 26 – 28, 2021 and not quite fall but that would be a great spot to introduce the new C8 Corvette Z06 to the market if they were to do it.

The LA Auto Show is November 19th-28th at the Los Angeles Convention Center and Chicago had their car show but Detroit nixed their car show so possibly the Los Angeles Auto Show would be best place to announce more about the Z06 C8 Corvette if they don’t do it at Corvettes of Carlisle.
